Big Ben was raised by his mother in North London. His father was killed by the apartheid regime in South Africa. With family to support here and overseas his mother worked long hours meaning big ben had to grow up fast. Being very intelligent but also very rebellious Big Ben often got into trouble, however from his early teens he had a skill for putting his chaotic life into words
He was first noticed at 15 by UK rap legend Skinny man who would let him open his shows and took him on his radio show, after hearing a tape of Big Ben that was around Finsbury Park at the time.
In 2009 Big Ben dropped his debut mixtape ‘Good Food Rap’ an underground classic that earned him a strong word of mouth following. Good Food Rap was recorded and promoted with UKOverstood and supported by Dj’s at the time such as DJ279,Richard Blackwood and online media channels, blogs etc such as ZeeTvd and Tokyo Grindhouse
Whether it’s about partying or paying the bills Big Ben makes rebel music, with an unflinching, heart on his sleeve, bare all perspective. His personality, dark humour, charm and catalogue of hits makes his live performance passionate, dramatic and fun definitely not to be missed. That is why he’s performed at Glastonbury, TDK festival, Respect festival , I luv Live to name a few; and has opened for major recording acts such as Ghostface Killah, The Clipse, M.O.P, DJ Premier, The Licks, SkinnyMan, Omar, Shola Ama, Sway, Mitchell Brothers and Rahzel.
